MuleSoft, which provides integration for cloud and on-premise applications, has released Avalara iApp4Tax, a cloud product developed in collaboration with Avalara. Avalara, a cloud-based sales-and-use tax vendor, provides an application programming interface and software development kit for building custom integrations.

Tectura has decided to begin selling its proprietary products and applications globally through Dynamics resellers. Previously, the San Mateo, Calif.-based company has sold them only to its clients or through its own channel. Its life sciences industry technologies will be available beginning with all other technologies available on July 1.

Dynamics reseller Altara has acquired Innagen with the press release innocently saying the latter company is the former Katalys Group. But that appears to end a chapter in the evolution in Dynamics reselling as the Katalys Group was viewed as a buying group by Microsoft, the kind of operation it is trying to shut down.

The question is not if Dynamics AX is moving upmarket. The question is “How far can it go? And given the price of Tier 1 packages, there is a trend for products like AX and NetSuite to be pulled upstream, at least as a second-tier deployment for a company with the higher-priced systems. "When we talk enterprise, we are talking about companies with 250 PCs or more," said Fred Studer, GM of Dynamics product management.

Acumatica has added project accounting to its software suite with the availability of Version 3.0. And that goes to the head of a class because one reseller interviewed a few months ago chose Intacct over Acumatica primarily because the latter lacked that capability. Given the Solomon roots of the product and many of the resellers it has attracted, project accounting is an important addition.

SWK Technologies of Livingston, N.J., has signed a letter of intent to buy Hightower, or what's left of it. The press announcement from SWK's parent, SilverSun Technologies, said Hightower, based in Skokie, Ill., would add more than $3 million in revenue to SWK's operations. The move would make SWK one of Sage's largest North American VARs.

Microsoft was busy promoting the spring release of CRM Anywhere at last week's Convergence user conference. But one of the biggest developments was the links the company is establishing with content providers such as Linkedin and InsideView. Of course, the first thing that went on in a demo by Craig Dewar was the use of mobile devices being supported in the new product, starting with the iPad, to work with the CRM packages.

Intuit's Australian software distributor, Reckon, has told Intuit it will not renew an agreement under which it has been selling Quicken and QuickBooks in that country. That includes QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions. Reckon filed documents with the Australian Stock Exchange in which it reported that the agreement expires on Feb. 14, 2014.

CONVERGENCE BODY COUNT: APPLES AND ...?

Microsoft boasted that Convergence was the biggest ever with more than 10,000 attendees. Call that 10,800, someone said. And usually these counts include Microsoft staff, exhibitors, press and analysts. But some said comparisons are skewed by the fact that Convergence Europe is no more and more than 2,000 came from the international market. One tweet had the overseas contingent as 21 percent of the total, which suggests the domestic count is down over three years ago.
