ALFAPEOPLE HIRES FORMER COLUMBUS IT CEO

Clause E. HansenAlfaPeople, a Dynamics AX reseller, has hired former Claus E. Hansen, former CEO of Columbus IT Partner as its new COO. The company, which entered the United States this year, says its goal is $7.2 million in profit and $71 million in sales within three years, double its current size.

INTACCT SIGNS BRITTENFORD

brittenford logoIntacct seemed to have taken a breather in channel recruitment. But this week, it said it had signed Brittenford Systems, a Dynamics VAR based in Reston, Va. After looking like it would stay on a reseller-a-week tear, Intacct had not announced any new channel members since June 22. Although Intacct has done well with accounting firms, it is still having trouble penetrating the top Dynamics VARs. Brittenford had $4.5 million in revenue for 2010 and rank as 91 on my Top 100 VAR list so it's a good catch. Read more...

OMNIVUE NAMES FINANCE VP

Bryan KrohnOmnivue, an Atlanta-based Dynamics reseller, has named Bryan Krohn as VP of financial operations. Krohn's hiring was announced this week although his LinkedIn page shows he took over the job in July. From June 2006 through May 2011, he was director of financial for the U.S. surgical market of Molnlycke Healthcare, and from June 2007 through December 2010 held the same position with the company's Golden Gloves business unit. Doug Kennedy Microsoft is intensifying its talk about culling its channel to eliminate weaker players.And while that's hardly a new topic, executives apparently were more open about their intention to go forward and boot nonperformers at the recent retreat held at St. Andrews, Scotland, for this year's Inner Circle members.

MICROSOFT SEEKING MASTER VARS

Craig MaurerMicrosoft is continuing to look for a way to keep smaller resellers involved in selling Dynamics while at the same time talking about how it will cut non-producers and is introducing, or at least testing, a Master VAR plan. "September 1 marks the date when Microsoft plans to launch a pilot of a "Master VAR" program for Dynamics partners," says an email from Craig Maurer, president of S2 Technologies, which is soliciting other dealers in partnership with the Katalys Group.

AX NOW MATCHES GP?

With the launch of Dynamics AX 2012 that product has matched the functionality that Dynamic GP has in its financials, according to the Microsoft view.  And despite what Microsoft has said about not having a favorite product in its accounting software line, executives are starting to hint more openly that AX is the horse Microsoft plans to ride. Intuit is dropping the ProLine brand that it had launched as method of tying together its product lines. While that doesn't directly affect many readers of this newsletter, it shows how tough rebranding can be. BLYTHE: SAGE REBRANDING A BAD IDEA

Steve BlytheSteve Blythe, CEO of Blytheco, Sage's largest VAR and its perennial top award winner, thinks that the plan to rebrand Sage's product line with the same number system the vendor uses is a bad idea.
