Point-of-sale specialist Radiant Systems is about to disappear into the caverns of NCR by way of a tender offer. For many in this business, Radiant's best known product was the former Synchronics Counter Point product. The NCR deal is a cash tender of $28 per Radiant Systems share, giving it a value of about $1.2 billion.

SAP is continuing its turn towards channel distribution in order to reach small and medium enterprises. This time, it's a variety of Sybase products that can now be sold or used by resellers that handle products such as Business One and Business ByDesign. Now available to them is the Unwired platform that enables them to develop mobile applications.

Syspro continued to broaden its channel as it announced it has signed AccuPointe, a Monroe, N.C.-based Sage reseller. AccuPointe sells the MAS line and BusinessWorks. It also carries JobOps, the job shop and tracking software from Synergistic Systems, a BDO subsidiary. Read more...

Peter Yip, CEO of CDC Software, has agreed to be placed on personal leave after a court imposed sanctions on the company during hearings regarding a law suit involving a bondholder, and said it might sanction him for his testimony. The court termed CDC's testimony "patently false."

Microsoft's Dynamics operation closed out the year ended June 30 with a bang as revenue for the software business was 19 percent higher than the fourth quarter of fiscal 2010. And Dynamics revenue was up by 10 percent year-over-year, the company said today as it released its 2011 earnings report. Those numbers support the anecdotal evidence of some resellers who said that June was one of the best months ever.Read more...

Epicor has postponed its Perspectives conference, originally scheduled to be held from November 9 through 12 at the Gaylord in Nashville, Tenn. It is now scheduled for May 6 through 9 at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas. From a choice of places I don't like, this is a pretty even swap. (After the first 20 visits, Vegas sort of loses its charm.)

Clients First Business Solutions last month took away Epicor Evangelist Award as the "the partner who has been the most enthusiastic about promoting Epicor and the Channel." And that's pretty good since the Holmdel, N.J.-based reseller has been carrying Epicor 9 only since November. The awards were given out in early June at Momentum, Epicor's partner conference.

Sage will drop its product brand names over the next two years in North America as it moves to the combination of company name and numbers that are used in the rest of the world to label its applications. That announcement was made this week at the Sage Summit conference by Pascal Houillon, CEO of Sage North America, in his first major speech before the company's channel. The teacher in my ice skating class last night was asking me what brand of ice skating blades and boots I wore. I said, “I don’t know and I don’t care.” I got a real discount a few years ago and got a discontinued style of boot and discontinued kind of blade that bore a retail price of $750 at a steal. A couple of years ago, I replaced the blades with a style that’s more suited for jumping and I might have to replace the boots. Read more...
