PRIVATE EQUITY AND CLOUD ERP

Kathy Crusco,  Epicor An intriguing question was asked during this week's Epicor earnings webcast. An analyst queried Epicor CFO Kathy Crusco about whether the company's current capital structure "is IPO dependent." Crusco replied, "It is not IPO dependent." Epicor is widely believed to be on the block, presumably private equity group Apax Partners wants to cash out.

SALES EXECUTION DENTS EPICOR

Peter Elmgren, EpicorSales execution in the United State impacted Epicor's ERP revenue  for 2014, the company said in this week's conference call. Epcior had previous reported the quarterly numbers but its earnings calls generally lag the reports by several days. CEO Joseph Cowan said a new head of U.S. sales had been hired, although he gave no names. However, LinkedIn shows Peter Elmgren joined Epicor as VP of sales in December.

BCS/PROSOFT NABS DELTEK HONOR

Clark Haley, BCS ProSoft BCS/ProSoft has received the Deltek Growth Leader of the Year award for 2015. The award went to the San Antonio, Texas-based VAR headed by Clark Haley for its sales of Deltek Vision. Herndon, Va.-based Deltek, which markets software for project-based businesses, named PDS Consulting Solutions of Knoxville, Tenn., as GovCon Partner of the Year. This week, Deltek also selected 15 resellers as its 2015 GovCon and Vision Premier Partners.

ECONOMY SAPS PRODWARE RESULTS

ProdwareA weak economic climate pushed revenue for the Prodware Group, a Dynamics and Sage VAR, down 1.1 percent to about $197.9 million in 2014. However, company-wide revenue was up 2.1 percent on a like-for-like basis. The company did not issue any earnings figures in issuing unaudited results for the year ended December 31. More than half of revenue—54.3 percent or about $107.5 million—which was up 3.9 percent on a like-for-like basis, came from French-speaking areas.

SUGARCRMSugarCRM has named 18 resellers as Elite Partners. The company says these VARs have built large-scale growing businesses that provide consulting, implementation, integration, training and development services for Sugar. They also meet or exceed standards for technical proficiency and professional certification in Sugar products.

It's a way of getting back at those who want to require travelers get vaccinated before visiting New Jersey. The governor and other anti-vaccination forces are urging parents to make a game of measles, telling them to connect dots and then see what the resulting figure resembles.

BIGGER DEALS BOOST QLIK

Lars Björk, Qlik TechnologiesThe increasing size of deals boosted results for Qlik Technologies for the year ended December 31. The company saw significant increases in the number of sales more than $100,000 with the number of customer sales rising at every level, including those of more than $1 million. There were nine of those in 2014 compared to seven in 2013. "We continue to see high quality organizations make larger commitments to us," CEO Lars Björk said in this week's earnings webcast.

EPICOR LOSS, REVENUE DOWN

Joseph Cowan, EpicorThe ERP segment usually leads Epicor's financial results. But for the first quarter ended December 31, it did not perform as well as the normally strong Retail Distribution segment or the frequently weak Retail Solutions operation. The company lost $6.3 million for the most recent ended period, down from $14.6 million in the corresponding period of fiscal 2014. Revenue fell to $243.9 million down slightly from slight more than $245 million.

CLOUD TO HIT BLACKBAUD RESULTS

Tony Boor, BlackbaudBlackbaud spent much of its conference call about the results for the year ended December 31 preparing Wall Street and investors for the impact of its upcoming NXT product line. Raiser's Edge NXT and Financial Edge NXT have been sold since December and will be delivered in the second half. Those buying the desktop versions are buying the right to upgrade to the cloud-based NXT lines.

SAGE HIRES SALES VP

John Pullen, SageSage North America has hired John Pullen as EVP of sales. Pullen is focused on the company's Mid-Market Business Solutions operations.  The Mid-Market division has been led by Joe Langner as EVP of Mid-Market Solutions, but that was a broader range of responsibilities than just sales. This is a new position. A spokesperson said, "He will work with the Sage Demand and Lead Generation Marketing teams to boost new customer acquisition efforts."
