JOB BOSS GETS STARTER EDITION

JobBoss, which has been one of the hottest products for Exact, now has a Start Edition. Exact said the package is design for smaller jobs shops to enable them to add the structure to compete with larger manufacturers. The company’s announcement said the product can create quick or highly detailed customer quotes and track labor, outside services and material costs. Perhaps the most important development is it integrates with QuickBooks and has Intuit QuickBooks Gold Developer Certification. Read more...

ACUMATICA ADDS PROJECT ACCOUNTING

acumatica logoAcumatica has added project accounting to its software suite with the availability of Version 3.0. And that goes to the head of a class because one reseller interviewed a few months ago chose Intacct over Acumatica primarily because the latter lacked that capability. Given the Solomon roots of the product and many of the resellers it has attracted, project accounting is an important addition.

SWK BUYING HIGHTOWER

Jeff Roth, SWKSWK Technologies of Livingston, N.J., has signed a letter of intent to buy Hightower, or what's left of it. The press announcement from SWK's parent, SilverSun Technologies, said Hightower, based in Skokie, Ill., would add more than $3 million in revenue to SWK's operations. The move would make SWK one of Sage's largest North American VARs. Read more...

DYNAMICS CRM LOADING UP INFO

Craig Dewar, MicrosoftMicrosoft was busy promoting the spring release of CRM Anywhere at last week's Convergence user conference. But one of the biggest developments was the links the company is establishing with content providers such as Linkedin and InsideView. Of course, the first thing that went on in a demo by Craig Dewar was the use of mobile devices being supported in the new product, starting with the iPad, to work with the CRM packages.

INTUIT'S AUSSIE ALLY WON'T RENEW

Intuit's Australian software distributor, Reckon, has told Intuit it will not renew an agreement under which it has been selling Quicken and QuickBooks in that country. That includes QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions. Reckon filed documents with the Australian Stock Exchange in which it reported that the agreement expires on Feb. 14, 2014.

CONVERGENCE BODY COUNT: APPLES AND ...?

conv2012-logoMicrosoft boasted that Convergence was the biggest ever with more than 10,000 attendees. Call that 10,800, someone said. And usually these counts include Microsoft staff, exhibitors, press and analysts. But some said comparisons are skewed by the fact that Convergence Europe is no more and more than 2,000 came from the international market. One tweet had the overseas contingent as 21 percent of the total, which suggests the domestic count is down over three years ago.

COURT OKAYS $250M CDC SHARE SALE

cdc software logoA bankruptcy court has approved the sale of shares of CDC Software stock for just under $250 million to a Cayman Islands-based firm. The deal would also give the company enough funds to pay $65 million to funds that have sued the organization over a convertible debt issue. CDC Software owns the Ross Systems and Pivotal lines and during a complex series of corporate maneuvers had tried to sell Ross and Tradebeam, a move blocked by the court. Read more...

EPICOR GETS NEW CHANNEL EXEC

Matt Bauer, EpicorWhen you ask "whatever became of" regarding corporate managers, the chances are they are no longer there. Epicor did not announce the hiring of Matthew Bauer as channel director, Americas in February. He replaced Patrick Coulbourne, who was senior director of channels for the Americas. Coulbourne resigned in January and became VP of channels and ecosystems at KeyedIn Solutions.

The Los Angeles-area Sage reseller joins a steady stream of colleagues entering the SugarCRM Open+ Partner Program. And that comes on the heels of Arxis picking up Intacct's online offering. VARS INTO THE CLOUD

Lindy Antonelli, AccessTekEvidence is building that part of the channel is not buying Microsoft’s cloud strategy. One example is long-time Dynamics VAR, Lindy Antonelli of Chicago whose Access Teknologies this year sold its Dynamics GP customer base to Sikich to concentrate on the Intacct line. A long-time SL VAR said he was being forced to consider the cloud because of Microsoft's lack of progress and is looking at Intacct and Acumatica.
