MICROSOFT JOINING PSA, PROJECT Featured

Microsoft is bringing together the capabilities of Dynamics 365 for Project Service Automation and Microsoft Project. They are being brought together as a new Microsoft Project Service, which will be available in the third quarter.

“It will become Microsoft’s primary project management service over time,” Muhammed Alam, GM of Dynamics 365, wrote in a blog post. Projecting planning capabilities are being brought to the cloud on Azure and utilizing the Common Data services. The service will be available only in Project Online Professional and premium subscriptions. Professional subs will incorporate scheduling, task grid/board/timeline, and roadmap capabilities. Later, Microsoft will add issue tracking, risk tracking, core resource management, and cost management capabilities. In the first quarter of 2020, Microsoft will replace PSA’s Work Breakdown Structure, Gantt, and task scheduling capabilities with those from the new Project service experience. Alam said Microsoft will continue to sell PSA licenses until the move is completed. PSA subscription will be replaced by a combination of Project Online subscriptions and a Dynamics 365 subscription with discounts available to customers who need to purchase both subscriptions to Project and current PSA capabilities.
