SAP TO PUT $2B INTO IOT Featured

Bill McDermott, SAPEnough just talking about the Internet of Things—SAP has agreed to pump 2 billion euros, about $2.2 billion over the next five years, into developing its IoT software portfolio. Besides putting the money in its own operations, the Germany-based software company says funds will grow its partners and startups. Soon, you'll be able to text your microwave and have your coffee mug heated up while you park the car.

"With billions of connected devices, we now have the potential to reshape society, the economy and the environment," CEO Bill McDermott said in a prepared statement. SAP is positioning its hot technology, SAP Hana, as the data platform to drive IoT. Industry 4.0 packages that feature IoT capabilities are being introduced that include a jump-start package and accelerator package. Those are complemented by the SAP Distributed Manufacturing application for additive manufacturing 3D printing services. An Industry 4.0 package is scheduled later to provide advanced manufacturing insight and controls, machine learning functionality and predictive analysis for quality and maintenance operations. Future products are planned to address digital operations of cities, agriculture and energy industries.
