SAP INTROS BI VERTICALS

SAPSAP continued on a path it started last fall with the launch of vertically focused analytic applications with the launch of six next entries in the Business Objects line. The six new applications are IP Rights Analysis, Upstream Operations Performance Analysis, Staff Productivity Management for Healthcare, Healthcare Practitioner Spend Analysis and Reporting Planning for Public Sector, raising the number of applications in this effort to 16.

Even though this isn’t your garden-variety BI stuff it’s worth noticing because it adheres to themes that SAP is setting across its product line. This includes the utilization of real-time, in-memory computing and the ability to access data from any mobile device via the Sybase Unwired Platform, which the company says enables it “to offer a comprehensive mobile BI suite that taps rich content from SAP and non-SAP business applications.” That came as SAP launched BusinessObjects 4.0 which incorporates new applications including Data Services software that it says can consolidate any data source and Information Steward for analyzing, monitoring and rating data sources for completeness, accuracy and consistency. There is also Event Insights designed to understand the impact of events such as financial market fluctuations and network traffic patterns. Finally, there is BusinessObjects Business Intelligence (or should we say SAP BO BI?) for self-service access.
