MICROSOFT ENDS FOUR ERP AWARDS

Microsoft Dynamics logoMicrosoft has stopped handing out separate awards for each of its four ERP products: Dynamics AX/GP/NAV/SL. In their place is one overall ERP and one CRM Award, along with ISV awards for each of those categories (obviously not a surprise to anyone who vied for these awards). The change emphasizes sectors with awards give in manufacturing, distribution, financial services, public sector, retail and professional services.

I would say not only is big in, in terms of who is getting the award, big looks to be about the only thing that counts. There appear to be dramatically fewer awards for which most American accounting software resellers will be serious contenders. This probably means there should be even less reason for financial software VARs to attend the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference, which will be held July 11 through 14 in Los Angeles (directly opposite Sage’s Summit conference). Many were going only for the awards or sending just enough attendees to be politically correct and sending more people to Convergence which is the Dynamics show. I stopped attending a few years ago because it was so hard to find the ERP resellers in the mass of other channel partners. There is also an award for Dynamics Cloud Business Excellence. Perhaps that could be more accurately have been named Hosted Dynamics Business Excellence, but what’s a few words here and there. My first reaction is that award winners are more likely than ever to be from outside the United States or to have international operations. There’s also probably little chance of VARs who simply resell a Dynamics product, without adding their own special sauce, of winning.
