ECONOMY: IT'S GETTING BETTER PART OF THE TIME?

This week's earnings reports has been an interesting chapter in salesmanship (Should that be salespersonship?) as CEOs trotted out their financial results via conference calls and ooh and aah about numbers that a year ago would have had them trying bungee jumping without a bungee cord. The bright spots do not seem to not be in the small and medium business market nor domestically, not that part of those segments aren’t improving in the United States.

They are, but perhaps not as quickly as overseas and in larger organizations. A quick check of Bob Scott's economic indicator (jobs posted on Google) show few postings from of this market. There's nothing under the name of Tectura or ePartners as of today and Blytheco, which had been more active than anyone, has only one position up. Sage seems to have a decent number of postings and it's continuing to hammer away at recruiting implementation consultants for X3 ERP, the high-end manufacturing package that goes up against Infor, Dynamics AX and the like. Right now, however, there's only one newly certified X3 VAR in the United States and he paid a lot of money to get going. The X3 ads are those multiple posts of the same positions that look like ways to capture more visibility. Epicor, down about 50 people for the June quarter, will probably start some cautious hiring on the sales side, according to its Webcast. But right now, most Monster posts from that company look like they are probably for replacement hires.
