SAGE BRANDING 50, 100, 300, 500

Doug DeaneSage 50, 100, 300, 500. ... Hike?  Sage North America detailed the actual numbers for rebranding its financial products in a partner conference call this week. To say there is concern in the channel is an understatement But Doug Deane, CEO of San Diego-based DSD Business Systems noted, "Although, I am a bit anxious about the name change, we are going to trust that Sage's brand strategists have a good handle on what they are doing."

Deane also said that he appreciates the tools being made available to make the change and that "This appears to be a very well-thought-out, carefully planned process." The move away from the historic product names to a numbering system would bring the practice on this continent in line with Sage elsewhere. Sage 50 covers Peachtree and Simply Accounting. Sage 100 would encompass MAS 90 and 200; Master Builder and Fund Accounting. Accpac and Timberline fall under Sage 300. Sage 500 covers MAS 500 and Fund Accounting when used by larger companies. Sage rolled out a logic that hasn't been explained before. Fifty represents companies often with under 50 employees and up to $50 million in revenue, while 500 is for up to 500 employees and $500 million in revenue. The change rolls out with new versions next year. One advantage in the new name pops out. With the name Peachtree gone, the emphasis on industries looks clearer with Sage 50 having a variety of editions: construction accounting, distribution accounting and manufacturing accounting. That also comes through on Sage 100 Contractor (Master Builder) and Sage 300 Construction (Timberline).
