SAGE REBRAND UPDATE NEXT WEEK

Tom MillerSage executives are holding a conference call next week to explain rebranding. That ought to be a well- attended event as I haven’t seen any evidence that a lot of the channel thinks changing product names to the Sage plus a number system used outside of this country. The attitude is more "just what we need, another name change."
It will be conducted by channel VP Tom Miller and communications chief Dennis Frahmann. Rebranding is hardly a Sage thing—Infor is placing all of its products under the Infor10 platform, although right now it is preserving the historical names with the new designation. One example is the SyteLine listing on Infor’s website which now is shown as “Infor10 ERP Business (SyteLine)” and most of the products, except newly acquired Lawson, are displayed in similar fashion. As previously mentioned, Intuit, on the other hand, has moved away from its two-year old effort to put its software applications under the Intuit ProLine brand. Although the name still appears, it has been removed from products now known as Tax Online and Lacerte Tax Research. I have more trouble with the Sage effort because the original names we heard, such as giving Peachtree the name Sage 50, are more confusing since there is a product overseas with the same name that’s not remotely related to Peachtree. I suppose Sage will find a way out of that.
