SAGE BUYS IRISH PAYMENT PROCESSOR

sagelogo80The Sage Group, which has been getting back into the M&A game, picked up its first target of 2012. The company, based in the United Kingdom, has acquired Integral Computers Ltd., a Dublin, Ireland-based payment processing provider for about $26.1 million in cash. Integral was founded in 1989 and provides services to small retailers that have standalone or electronic point-of-sale payment needs.

Integral claims its services are utilized at more 25,000 locations in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Integral will be renamed Sage Pay and integrated into the Sage Pay operation which has previously provided card holder not present capability. Sage will keep Integral's 40 employees. The Sage Group, the parent of Sage North America, had no acquisitions of size in 2011 and the last significant purchase was of NetCash, a South African payment processor, in 2010. However, in November, chief executive Guy Berruyer said he intended to become active in M&A again when he presented financial results for the year ended September 30.
