MICROSOFT TAKES ANOTHER STEP IN SERVICES

crispin readMicrosoft put the color Azure into the Dynamics world and is using the new platform to support its rollout of more offerings under its software plus services program. The company says 150 resellers already market payment services via Dynamics NAV, a number that has more than doubled in the last year, according to Crispin Read, general manager of Microsoft Dynamics ERP.

Last month, the company said it would introduce more services during the first half of 2010, including Site Services and Commerce Services, while additional payment services providers will be named during the first quarter. Site Services enable Dynamics users to create and manage Web sites from within Dynamics while Commerce Services can link the ERP applications with e-commerce marketplaces, storefronts and shopping cart capabilities. The services will be introduced in next year’s versions of Dynamics AX, NAV and SL. Pricing has not been set for Commerce Services or Site Services and Read said they will likely be priced different than Payment Services, which utilize the transaction pricing standard to the payment processing business. Read also noted that services could simply become part of the base product. "We don’t exclude services that are free-of-charge as part of customer enhancements," he said. Windows Azure is the platform that Microsoft is using for online services and it will support the Dynamics offerings.
