INTUIT PARTNERS FOR QBO POS Featured

Revel SystemsIntuit has reached an agreement with Revel Systems, which will develop QuickBooks Point of Sale powered by Revel Systems. The application, which will be available next year, is an iPad POS application that works with QuickBooks Online. Intuit has an online wait list for the product. This reminded me that a couple of years ago, I asked an Intuit spokesperson whether traditional desktop hardware/software POS systems--sold by companies such as Intuit--would become obsolete because of the use of mobile devices.

I got a confident answer that it wouldn't, which, of course, I did not believe and I'm sure they didn't either. The alliance also shows the increasing willingness of Intuit to use third parties. This is a trend I just wrote about for our sister publication, The Progressive Accountant, as is happening with Wolters Kluwer CCH and probably with Thomson Reuters. Part of it has to be mobile is evolving so rapidly, big companies can't write the apps they need quickly enough. The Revel product does the usual POS things of collecting sales and payment data to be entered into QuickBooks Online. Revel has a line of specialized POS systems, including those for pizza restaurants, yogurt shops, convenience stores and coffee shops. Intuit will probably have its own pricing, but a review shows Revel Lite has a $500 license per iPad for up to 2,000 items; Business edition, $1,000 per iPad and up to 100,000 items; and the Enterprise version, also $1,000 per iPad for up to 100,000 items.
