ONLINE EFFORT TARGETS ACCOUNTANTS Featured

Neil Williams, IntuitThe headline here should probably have the word 'Again' as software vendors have generally prized accountants for their ability to influence the buying decision of clients. But with the growth of cloud computing, we appear on the verge of a new era of firm enlistment. In a webcast of his presentation at the 31st Nasdaq Investor Program in London this week, Intuit CFO Neil Williams said Intuit has done about all it can in terms of product enhancements to encourage desktop users to migrate to QuickBooks Online.

"We are making our QB Online application strong and rich and getting accountants familiar with using QuickBooks Online and getting them to convince and persuade their clients to convert," he said. In this week's webcast of Sage's results for fiscal 2014, new CEO Steve Kelly also indicated accountants will be on the front line for his company's push of the online Sage One accounting application in the United States. Kelly was not specific, but he commented on the importance of accountants as a channel in Sage One's lagging progress in this country. "We have some work to do around the [accountant] channel, which is less developed in the United States than it is in the United Kingdom," Kelly said.
