SAGE VARS TO VOTE WITH FEET Featured

sageA lot of people are talking about Sage Life, most in the channel not as fans. The fact that the channel was not given advanced notice of a totally new product (coupled with Sage jettisoning Pascal Houillon) has taken many resellers beyond anger to resignation. This quote sums up one attitude very well. “I think that all our energy will be spent trying to outrun Sage's shipwreck, and most other partners, who want to be in this business 10 years from now, are doing the same,” said one VAR. This is from someone who is not a hothead, but who had been a solid Sage loyalist.

Sage says it will sell Life first via the direct sales and then bring the channel in later. EVP Doug LaBahn says the product should be ready to show at Summit. I’m not sure what will be ready to show as LaBahn and the FAQ document release to the channel talk about Sage’s talking with users that are outgrowing QuickBooks about what they need. This sounds like a huge helping of vaporware that Sage desperately hopes can be completed in the next two month. The feedback is Sage didn’t buy this technology but started writing after CEO Stephen Kelley started his job in October. Apparently Sage has a team of super coders, testers and QA people that are going to materialize this product out of thin air in record team. The channel is probably lucky it’s not getting first dibs on this. One person who listened to the fireside chat held on May 12 by Kelley and Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff said, “Kelley spent 20 minutes talking about himself.” I feel sorry for the execs that have to go out in the field and try to create enthusiasm for the troops. There just don’t seem to be any answers.
