ENVISION ALTERS SHOW MAP Featured

Andy Hafer, Dynamic CommunitiesMicrosoft's decision to end Convergence and replace it with a conference called Envision has set a lot of parts in motion. Overall, Envision, aimed at business leaders, is a bit of a Dynamics AX show with those catering to three other ERP packages not pleased. The AX crew seems happy, although one report that the number of user attendees is down sharply, won't please anybody if true. Josh Richards, marketing director for Merit Solutions, notes, "We do believe we will have more access to, and higher quality conversations with, organization's C, VP, and director levels," he says. He also reminds people Envision is not a Dynamics-centric conference.

Andy Vabulas says his company, I.B.I.S., will exhibit in the booth of its new owner, Sonata Software. "We are aligning with the new theme of Envision in order to present all of Sonata's Microsoft capabilities the business decision makers at the show," Vabulas says. But many are leaving or cutting back. Mark Rockwell, owner of Rockton Software, says "We are going exclusively for our CRM product offering and we are not expecting much. ISVs in the GP channel is bailing left and right," he says. And while the exhibitor page is full of entries, several of those are likely to pull out. One hosting company owner says, "Sponsorship fees haven't changed but yet days, hours and number of people have been cut, so it doesn't make sense." One reseller, Eric Newell, president of Stoneridge Software, comments "Last year, we had a strong percentage of our existing customers attend Convergence as well as a few key prospects. This year, with the change of focus, we are still looking for our first customer who plans to attend." So Stoneridge is passing on the show.  A major beneficiary is Dynamic Communities, whose fall Summits for Dynamics AX, GP, NAV and CRM were already growing rapidly. "We heard of many ISVs who asked for full refunds and pulled out," says Andy Hafer, Dynamic Communities' CEO. We have also seen a significant uptick in interest of our conferences, particularly Summit." Hafer also notes, "We are getting ridiculous encouragement from the community to establish a 'Convergence 2.0.' Stay tuned for more info on that."
