SALESFORCE BUYING TABLEAU Featured

Salesforce is planning to buy Tableau Software, an analytics software company, for $15.7 billion via a tender offer. The companies this week announced a definitive agreement for the acquisition has been reached.

Since this made the news here and there, what is there to say here that hasn’t already been said? The main thing is the increased attention mid-market financial software VARs have been paying to Salesforce. Some resellers interviewed for this year’s story for Bob Scott’s Top 100 VARs cited the fact that there are a lot of sales to be made with Salesforce because of its position in the market. It seems likely that the involvement of ERP resellers with Salesforce products will only grow. Now for the box score:  For the year ended December 31, Tableau had revenue of $1.16 billion, up 31.7 percent from 877.1 million for 2017. It lost slightly more than $77 million last year, compared to  $277.2 million in red ink the prior year.  Salesforce had $13.28 billion in revenue for its year ended January 31, an increase of 26 percent from $10.54 billion the prior year. The CRM software company reported net income of $1.11 billion for fiscal 2019, more than three times the $360 million for fiscal 2018.  Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff said in a webcast about the proposed acquisition that Salesforce been interested in picking up Tableau for a while. “We have tried to do something for a long time and it’s just hard to get the stars to align. Tableau has a reseller channel, although it is not concentrated in the traditional accounting software channel in North America. The channel includes Corporate Renaissance Group (recently acquired by Quisitive) and Encore Business Solutions,  along with accounting firms SVA Consulting and Plante & Moran
