MICROSOFT PREVIEWS DYNAMICS AX RETAIL PRODUCT

With the back drop of the National Retail Federation Annual Convention & Expo held this week in New York, Microsoft has introduced Microsoft Dynamics AX for Retail, which it described as an end-to-end package for midsize specialty retailers. The application combines features from LS AX Retail and LS POS.NET purchased from LS Retail EHF and Retail Chain Manager for Microsoft Dynamics AX acquired from To-Increase, a subsidiary of Columbus IT Partner.
The applications were among five the vendor acquired last fall from its channel. However, the new product won't be available until the summer when it rolls out in the United State and 15 other countries. The retail show was also the forum at which Epicor debuted three products. The first, the Secure Data Manager, a standalone payment-handling system that "achieves single Payment Application Data Security Standard (PA-DSS) validation across multiple retail systems while also providing authorization and settlement functionality," Epicor said. (OK, so I have to bone up on payment technology). In any event, the system handles data from card swipe to storage in a central repository. Then, there is Epicor Retail Business Intelligence 2.0 with a new interface with enhanced features (as opposed to, I suppose, a new interface with the same old features). Epicor said the BI product includes an extended data model encompassing a broader range of retail operations across the enterprise. It also supports integration of customer-defined external data elements. But wait, there's more! That is Epicor Retail Mobile Marketing, which Epicor developed along with Impact Mobile. Retailers can deliver customized messages, coupons and promotions to mobile device users. (Heck, I won't even give the checkout people my real Zip code.)
