FRANCHISING AHEAD IN DYNAMICS CHANNEL

Although there’s only one official announcement of a reselling operation interested in setting up franchising, there are reports circulating that up to three might be in the works with Microsoft’s blessing. The only announced plan is by Interdyn, which is putting together a plan. But one reseller is betting on Tribridge, which just raised several millions for expansion.

I had a call to Tribridge CEO Tony DiBenedetto but haven’t had a chance to ask a question on this one. The theory on this goes that Microsoft is expressing its approval of franchising while getting ready to provide a deadline for eliminating buying groups. Obviously, Tribridge has growth plans given the fact that is raised $24 million in a private offering in August. However, the only acknowledged effort comes from Interdyn, whose officers, Jeff Geisler and Alan Kahn, have publicly discussed their intention. Still, there’s a lot of work to be done to set the organization before any franchise recruitment can take place and there’s a lot of paperwork to be completed for the states in which any franchisor wants to operate. The one thing we know is that the Microsoft push to trim, or should we say performance drastic surgery on its channel, is building. Last year, Jeff Edward, the Dynamics said at Convergence that the company needed about 600 resellers in North America. I’m starting to hear numbers that are dramatically lower, but this could just be the rumor mill gearing up.
