KLAUS VS. KLAUS ON EPICOR’S CHANNEL

George KlausEpicor’s public statements about its channel continue to be a source of puzzlement and amusement. On March 9, CEO George Klaus told attendees at the first annual Signal Hill Technology Conference in about as plain language as possible that “We have a direct sales organization, a direct go-to-market strategy. … All of our competitors who compete with us in this market …. All of those go to the market through a channel. … Customers who buy through the channel deal with multiple partners in different locations."

Klaus continued that those who buy from Epicor “deal with one project manager, one program manager within Epicor, one sales organization, one consulting organization, one support organization and not a bunch of partners” … This is hardly complimentary talk. This week, the company issued a press release noting that it had been named to CRN’s 2011 Partner Programs Guide, and has also been awarded a 5-Star Partner rating. Klaus issued a statement that, “Epicor is proud to work with our channel partners around the world who are leaders and industry experts in their chosen focus.” I have to say, I just don’t get Klaus' almost fierce statements at Wall Street conferences touting direct sales over the channel since it’s clear that competing VARs have lost deals to Epicor 9 and new VARs seem to be starting to make deals.
