UNIT4 GETS PRIVATE EQUITY BIDS Featured

Unit4Unit4, the Netherlands-based owner of Agresso and Coda, has received a takeover bid. The company says it has been approached by private equity firms, and that is plural with no names disclosed. In a prepared statement, Unit4 says the prices appear to be in the range of up to $47.80 per share (translating from euros). We will have to look up the share base to get an idea of the size.

The company is evaluating the offers and has appointed ING Corporate Finance and Oppenheimer Europe as financial advisors and De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek as legal advisor. Are we going to end up with most of the ERP biz in private equity hands? Deltek and Epicor have already gone that direction. Private equity owns Abila, which purchased Sage Nonprofit Solutions and its backer, KKR-Accel has a stake in Swiftpage, which purchased Act and SalesLogix. You could make a case that Microsoft's Dynamics business would be better off in private equity ownership, especially with Dynamics CRM looking like it's outside the same fold as the accounting packages.
