QLIK COSTS TURN NET RED Featured

Lars Björk, Qlik TechnologyIncreased spending pushed Qlik Technology, which markets analytical software, to a loss. The company reported red ink of $14.4 million for the third quarter ended September 30, a swing from earnings of just under $3 million a year ago. Revenue for the most recently ended period was $131.3 million, an increase of 26 percent from $104.1 million. However, operating expenses for the quarter hit $121.9 million, a rise of 31.7 percent from $92.6 million a year ago.

CEO Lars Björk noted in a recent earnings webcast that in September the company launched its two-product strategy, QlikView for guided analytics and QlikSense for self-service visualization. The company did not disclose revenue from QlikSense, but Björk said it was higher than the company expected. With the next version of QlikView coming in 2015, Björk declined to speculate on the possibility the two products might eventually merge.
