SWK'S THIGPEN RETURNS TO NEXTEC

Joshua Thigpin, NextecJoshua Thigpen, who worked at SWK Technologies since August 2013, has returned to Nextec where he worked from May 2005 through August 2013. Thigpen is the latest in a series of personnel changes at Livingston, N.J.-based SWK since former CEO Jeff Roth left in February. He was SVP at SWK from August 2013 through October 2015 and EVP of SWK from October 2015 through last month.

UNIT4 NAMES CFO

Yann Leca, Unit4Unit4 has hired Yann Leca as CFO, the latest in  executive restocking by the software company this year. The Netherlands-based company named Stephen Sieber as CEO in April. Leca previously held senior-level positions private equity-owned companies.

DYNAMICS 365 PLANS SPELLED OUT

Microsoft has outlined its plans for Dynamics 365. A post on news section of the software company's CustomerSource, says Dynamics AX will become Dynamics 365 for Operations application within Dynamics 365 – Enterprise edition. The full Enterprise edition will be available next year. The cloud option, which is built on Azure, will be available on November 1 as Microsoft ramps up its most serious cloud entry to date.

EPICOR CFO NOW ALSO COO

Kathy Crusco, Epicor Software Epicor Software changed its management profile this week by adding the title COO to the duties of Kathy Crusco, who remains as CFO. The development came as KKR finished its acquisition of Epicor from Apax partners. Crusco will have a full plate as she will lead customer support and HR. Two other execs had changes to their responsibilities and it looks like the completion of a remake of management that has been underway for the last 18 months.

FISHBOWL LINKS TO AVALARA

Marshal Kushniruk, AvalaraFishbowl has written a link for its manufacturing and inventory packages to AvaTax, the cloud-based sales tax engine from Avalara. The move came as Avalara initiated a thrust into smaller businesses—including those that can be best described as candidates for purchasing Intuit's QuickBooks Self-Employed.

QB ONLINE AND DESKTOP GROW

Brad Smith, IntuitI get the feeling that if Intuit started selling a line of hair spray labeled "QuickBooks" that it would quickly dominate the market. Everything appeared to be working well as the software company reported results for the year ended July 31. Net income hit $969 million, a 165-percent increase from $365 million the prior year. Revenue reached $4.69 billion fiscal 2016, up 12 percent from $4.2 million for 2015.

XERO PRESENTS PARTNER AWARDS

Donna King, Beyond Balanced BooksXero has selected Kahuna Accounting was named Accounting Partner of Year for 2016 and Beyond Balanced Books was named Bookkeeping Partner of the Year. The awards were presented at the recent Xerocon, the cloud software vendor's annual conference, in San Francisco. Based in Bloomington, Ill., Kahuna provides accounting services to entrepreneurs and small law firms.

COLUMBUS GROWS ON SERVICE REVS

Thomas Honoré, ColumbusDanish VAR and developer Columbus this week reported a 55-percent increase in its net result on an 8-percent rise in revenue for the first half ended June 30. Columbus attributed much of the growth to its services income with its acquisitions, including that of InterDyn BMI last year, playing a major role in growth.

RECKON SALES UP, NET DOWN

Clive Rabie, ReckonAustralia-based Reckon—battling in the low-cost software market in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom—reported a 33.9-percent drop in earnings on a 6.4-percent rise in revenue for the half ended June 30. Reckon, the former QuickBooks distributor in Australia, competes with MYOB and Xero in Australia and New Zealand and in May introduced its Reckon One in the U.K., where it battles against Xero and Sage.
