Dynamics AX reseller mcaConnect of Greenwood Village, Colo., has acquired CRM specialist SalesMetrix of Houston. And there seems to be a trend here since this follows after the announcement earlier this month that Hitachi Consulting, also an AX VAR, had bought CRM firm Customer Effective. Will Moseley, SalesMetrix's president, will become mcaConnect's SVP of sales and marketing, with the entire employee and leadership team moving to the new corporate home.

It's been years since I've attended Microsoft's Worldwide Partner Conference. And after looking at the course agenda, the company has not come up with reasons to lure me back when the conference is held in Washington D.C. in mid-July There are 58 courses listed online So there's a partner day for the Dynamics crew. But as one top VAR said it's "So thin I am not attending! Don't hold your breath for content on partner day!"

Retail specialist K3 turned sales of Dynamics AX and Sage X3 into a rebound in business for the first half ended December 31. These results for the United Kingdom-based company resemble those of Copenhagen, Denmark-based Columbus for 2014. Both are producing growth on the specialized end of their business; both are benefiting from sales of their products built on Dynamics AX.
ACCEL-KKR AMASSES $325M FUND

Accel-KKR, which has done some significant investing in the ERP space, has completed fundraising for Accel‐KKR Structured Capital Partners II with $325 million in committed capital. There's a good reason that people in the financial software space should care. It was an Accel-KKR fund that acquired Sage Nonprofit Solutions to form Abila and made an investment in Swiftpage to fuel its acquisition of Act and SalesLogix.

NetSuite has been busy recruiting for channel members in the Pacific basin. In the last week, the cloud software company said it had signed two consulting firms in the Philippines, three on the Asian continent and one in Australia. The Philippine additions were Asper Solutions in Mandaluyong City, and CloudQwest in Makati City, both headquartered in the greater Manila area.

Diane Grayson, who was director of professional services at Acumatica for nine months, has started a firm to provide services to the Acumatica channel. A veteran reseller, Grayson held the Acumatica job from May 2013 through January 2014 and then worked at Kensium Solutions from January through April. The new firm, Grayson Solutions, is providing implementation teams that utilize what the firm calls "a proven project implementation methodology providing a prescriptive road map for successful projects."

There was a brief news item that Russia prime minister Vladimir Putin has divorced his wife of many year. Now, we know why he took over the Crimea—typical marital spat. "Honey where are you going?" "I don't know, take over another country or something," he yelled as he stormed out and slammed the door. ... Putin wants to take over David Letterman's show when the long-time late night TV host retires in the next year. Unfortunately, Putin can only come up with one Top 10 list—Top 10 Countries I'd like to invade.

Jeeves Information Systems, a financial software company based in Stockholm, Sweden, has opened its United States headquarters in Austin, Texas. CEO Jeff Tognoni said the new office will serve existing customers of JeevesERP in this country while he is also looking to market the product line more aggressively here. Jeeves is targeting small to midmarket manufacturers and distributors. Tognoni touted the ability of users to develop a highly customized system on top of a standard feature set.

AccuFund has named its top resellers for 2013. The awards were given late last month during the annual reseller meeting of the nonprofit accounting software vendor late last month, Mountaineer Computer Systems of Lewisburg, West, Va., was named volume sales leader overall and volume leader in government sector sales. Mountaineer, led by president James Copland, was runner-up last year as leader in overall sales.

Microsoft this week rolled out its Windows 8.1 Update. And the headline for the part of the press release that announces the changes says a lot about the issues the Windows 8 series has face: "easier to use, runs great on more devices." I suppose that's as opposed to not so easy to run and running OK on some devices. A big concession is the continuing acknowledgment that not everybody wants a touch screen interface. In the official words, "Key features of the update include user interface improvements for mouse and keyboard users, the ability to access the taskbar from any screen and pin Windows Store apps to the taskbar."
