SERENIC: RESULTS LIKELY TO IMPROVE

serenic logoNonprofit vendor Serenic hasn't had a lot of good financial news to report in the last two years. While the third quarter ended November 30 brought good news on the top line, with revenue up 30 percent over last year's corresponding period, the company's loss for the most recently ended period doubled. The third-quarter loss of $384,153 compared to $191,186 in red ink a year earlier.

SAP: "WE'RE GAINING ON EVERYBODY"

Bill McDermott, SAPAt his last financial earnings webcast for a fiscal year, Co-CEO Jim Hagemann Snabe took the opportunity to lay it on the competition as did Bill McDermott, who will be the last CEO standing after May. Well, that's lay it on in SAP terms which is a lot milder than the stuff dished out by NetSuite. "In the fourth quarter alone, we grew six times as fast as our nearest competitor," Hagemann-Snabe said. The closest competition is usually named Oracle. McDermott also took a swipe at unnamed rivals with "Who would buy solutions from a vendor who is not profitable?"

EXACT APP CENTER BOOMS

Martijn Feekes, Exact Exact says the number of applications available for Exact Online in the Exact App Center tripled in 2014. The Dutch company said that kind of development for Exact Online had not occurred previously. Hmm, since the cloud-based product was not available outside of the Netherlands for a long time and was introduced in the United States only late in 2013, that's hardly surprising. There are now 40 software companies represented in the year-old App Center with products there sorted by industry, solution area and product.

MICROSOFT TO HIT ROAD WITH GP

Microsoft is going on an eight-city tour between January 29 and March 3 on what it terms the Now & Next Tour. The jaunt is designed to show the 60 new features in the combined Service Pack 1 and 2 releases of Dynamics GP, along with the new Business Analyzer App. That's the Now part. The Next segment involves discussion of "the current and future direction of Microsoft Dynamics GP." (Is Microsoft suggesting there might be a change?).

BRUNELLI NAMED REDTAIL SALES VP

Chris Brunelli has been named VP of sales for RedTail Solutions, a position that has not been filled for several years. Brunelli, director of sales and business development from August 2007 until his promotion, said there had not been enough sales reps to justify the position. However, growth at the Westborough, Mass.-based third-party software company made the position viable. The company markets RedTail EDI integrates with many of the major mid-market accounting products.

SAGE SAYS AMERICA BIZ STRONG

Guy Berruyer, SageThe Sage Group, parent of Sage North America, says that its business in the Western Hemisphere, continued in the first quarter ended December 31. "The Americas maintained the strong performance reported in 2013," the company stated in a trading update. Trading updates generally do not provide figures of earnings and revenue and this one didn't. Sage also cited the migration of customers to premium support as a factor in the good business in North America, along with "the traction achieved by Sage ERP X3."

ACT GETS NORTH AMERICAN SALES VP

April Mirabella, SwiftpageCRM vendor Swiftpage has named April Mirabella as SVP of sales for Act North America. Based in Denver Colo. Swiftpage is the company that acquired Act and Saleslogix from Sage North America last year. Mirabella's duties include focusing "heavily on growing the existing Act! customer base as well as introducing and gaining traction with future Act! SaaS offerings." I would assume that since Act was a product on its way out at Sage that growing the customer base aggressively was not one of the priorities.

SAP EXECS SWEAR TO BE BFF'S

 Jim Hagemann-Snabe, SAPSAP's webcast this week about its 2013 results was as much an executive love fest as earnings call. Two key members of the executive team are changing roles. As planned, co-CEO Jim Hagemann-Snabe is becoming a member of the SAP supervisory board – the group that oversees the executive board such as the CEO and CFO, unlike the American model. And CFO Werner Brandt is retiring after 13 years in the top finance job at the German software giant.

INTUITIVE TEK GETS ADAPTIVE HONOR

Brian Storrs, Intuitive TekIntuitive Tek has been named North American Partner of the year by Adaptive Planning. Based in Lakewood, Colo., Intuitive Tek, also an Acumatica reseller, was in the news recently as the developer of the Acumatica Retail Management Solution, which debuted at the National Retail Federation's Big Show in New York City. The company, led by president Brian Storrs, was also Adaptive Planning's Partner of the Year for the Western United States in 2013.

SOCIUS CREATES STRATEGIC ALLIANCE JOB

Ken Ledyard, SociusSocius, a Sage and Microsoft reseller, has named Ken Ledyard to the newly created position of director of strategic alliances. Ledyard, who had been director of marketing from July 2010 through January 2014, is responsible for a variety of efforts, including the company's Master VAR program. "This is a new position as we are launching and expanding a number of key initiatives and this position will help to provide focus to our efforts," Ledyard said this week.
