SAGE SALES TAX SUIT NEARS END

Sage is approaching the approval of a settlement of a class action suit which said the company improperly collected sales tax on downloaded software sold in 15 states. Sage has agreed to pay users 115 percent of sales tax collected in those states and plaintiff legal costs of up to $500,000 for those who paid the tax on products downloaded between June 28, 2008 and April 30, 2013. The case, Ernest Howard v. Sage Software, was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on June 28, 2012.

CPA firm Armanino has named Dave Burlington as consulting partner to lead the San Ramon, Calif.-based organization's cloud consulting practice. Burlington was group VP of applications and technology at Taleo from 2005 through 2010. He was more recently COO at Epocrates, a publicly funded mobile health software company, from 2010 through 2012. In the interim, he was an advisory board member at Spencer Stuart and Affinity Live.

AlfaPeople has expanded in Latin America via mergers with two companies. With the envelopment of Tridea in Brazil and ProTab in Chile this week, AlfaPeople says it has become the largest Dynamics reseller in the region. And the Copenhagen, Denmark-based VAR says it intends to become the largest Dynamics CRM organization in the world and to gain a "leading position in Dynamics AX," focusing on retail, advanced distribution and manufacturing.

NetSuite has signed Big Four accounting firm Deloitte to its channel program as the cloud company expands services to the upper end of the market. Specifically, the alliance is aimed at companies that utilize a two-tier ERP approach in which corporations run an enterprise-level financial application at headquarters and NetSuite in divisions or other units. The parties expect to introduce an offering for automating adherence to revenue recognition rules via a cloud solution that can integrate with existing ERP systems and they also expect to incorporate an omni-channel offering.

Dynamics reseller Edgewater Technology is on the lookout for companies to acquire, CEO Shirley Singleton said this week. "We are going to pursue opportunistic acquisitions that add either critical mass to our specialty areas or add a new complementary revenue stream or streams," she said during the earnings webcast for the year ended December 31. Net income for the fourth quarter and full year received a substantial boost from $30.4 million tax benefit "in connection with the reversal of a majority of the Company's valuation allowance against the carrying value of its gross deferred tax assets" (say that three times quickly).
AQB INTUIT TOP RESELLER FOR 2013

AQB, a bookkeeping and consulting company, has been named Intuit's Reseller of the Year for 2013. It's the third time AQB has received the award, which was handed out at the Intuit Reseller Rally early this month. AQB, headed by president and CEO Marjorie Adams, also received the 2014 Intuit Payment Gold Excellence Award. What's interesting is that the release of this news by AQB is the first I've heard that Intuit has reseller awards and the Reseller Rally.

Microsoft has planned a new conference for its Dynamics software channel. As described, the event would be held November 7 through 11 and would combine the attributes of the former Stampede conference originated by Great Plains and the Microsoft Technical Airlifts. And it would be held in Fargo. Fargo in November? Bring dogs and a parka. The event is being planned, or at least promoted, by product manager, Pam Misialek, who handles Microsoft's Inside Microsoft Dynamics GP blog.

Deltek has chosen its Vision Premier Partners for 2014. The company's press release, which announced the selection this month, says the seven companies selected were from the ranks of its 30 business partners, which means it has not grown its channel in the last year. There are some familiar names on here including Acuity Business Solutions of Reston, Va.; AMR Group of Toronto, Ontario; and Central Consulting Group, of Minneapolis, Minn.

QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions keeps on ticking. The sort-of midmarket package from Intuit had 96,000 subscribers when the second quarter ended on January 31. That's an increase of 20 percent from 90,000 in last year's corresponding period. It's also up 5,000 – 5.5 percent—from 91,000 in the first quarter. Intuit does not give out any explanations for the growth when its quarterly results are issued since QBES is not material to results.
INTERDYN BMI BUYS REMINGTON

Interdyn BMI, a Minneapolis-based reseller, has acquired Interdyn Remington Consulting. BMI is the largest of the ERP VARs that are part of the Interdyn consortium; Remington, based in Portland, Ore., one of the smallest. BMI president Bryan Wilson said his company is adding seven staff members with the addition of Remington to bring its total to about 108 employees. Remington Consulting was founded in 1990 by Tad Remington. It carries Dynamics AX, GP and CRM.
