I told a friend I was going to take some pictures of raptors. He said, "Oh, I love the old guys like Tupac." ... The Republican presidential debates have been interesting in that depending on polling numbers, a candidate can be dis-invited to the next event. I was thinking that it would be more fun to use the system of the game show "Russian Roulette", in which the contestants stand in a circle on a game platform.

Microsoft had said last year it would change the Convergence format and there had already been talk among ISVs that they would stop attending or significantly cut back on booth space. A quick sample of reseller sentiment about the exit of chief revenue officer Richard Spring from Sage after nine months was what I thought it might be: Spring won over resellers and they hope the improved status of VARs and better relationships with Sage is sustained. Clark Haley, CEO of BCS/ProSoft, had this to say: "I felt that he appreciated the value that the reseller community brings to Sage and rather than blaming us for their falling market share, he was working to put programs in place that would benefit us and help Sage.

Former Great Plains CEO Doug Burgum is seeking the Republican nomination to be governor of North Dakota. News wire stores say Burgum does not expect to win the endorsement from the party at the GOP convention, but will run in the Republican primary in June. New reports also say Burgum has criticized the state's GOP legislature on social issues. That includes its failure to pass legislation to ban discrimination based on sexual orientation and that he has spoken about the importance of equal rights, inclusion and tolerance of others.

SilverSun Technologies, parent of reseller SWK Technologies, has declared a special cash dividend. The amount is six cents per share to holders of record on January 15. But for an organization that a few years ago looked very tenuous, this is a pretty remarkable development. "We believe this special one-time cash dividend—the first in our Company's history—is an appropriate way to reward our shareholders for their support," SilverSun CEO Mark Meller said in a prepared statement.

Earlier this month, I just missed Rich Spring, Sage North America's EVP and chief revenue officer, who was talking to someone at the Information Technology Alliance conference. He darted away before I could talk to him. No need now as the Spring era has ended. Spring, who joined the company in April, has left with Sage thanking him for his time. CFO Marc Scheipe, who is serving as interim president of Sage North America, will take over his duties until a replacement is found.
