MICROSOFT TO BUY FIELDONE

Ilan Slasky, FieldOne Systems Microsoft has reached an agreement to buy FieldOne Systems, which markets field service management applications. Based in Mahwah, N.J., FieldOne had joined Microsoft's Strategic Global ISV Partner Program in March. The benefits are the same—FieldOne is built on Dynamics CRM  and Microsoft was going to sell the acquired application anyway.

VAN TOOR JOINS AVALARA

David Van Toor, AvalaraIndustry veteran David Van Toor has joined Avalara as GM of EMEA Operations. Van Toor had been a consultant with the sales-and-use tax application provider from November 2013 through May. He was VP and managing director of Australasian operations with Epicor Software from 1992 through 2001. Van Toor then moved to Sage where he remained from 2001 through April 2009.

COLUMBUS NABS SHERWOOD SYSTEMS

Sherwood SystemsInterDyn BMI, itself acquired by Columbus this year, has seen its parent purchase Sherwood Systems. The recent deal moves Minneapolis, Minn.-based BMI into the Southwestern United States. Founded in 1990, Phoenix, Ariz.-based Sherwood carries Dynamics GP and CRM. It is also one of 40 Source Code authorized Great Plains Solution Developers. Its head, Lee Sherwood, retired following the deal.

INNER CIRCLE NAMES SEEPING OUT

MicrosoftMicrosoft has named the Dynamics Inner Circle members for 2015 at its Worldwide Partner Conference. However, the company apparently has not posted a list of those or  members of the President's Club, as it usually does. So names are emerging as individual companies issue press releases.  U.S. winners that have tooted their horns include Blue Horsehoe, mcaConnect, Rand Group, Socius and Western Computer. First impressions: it's a heavily AX club.

SAP PICKS NORTH AMERICAN CFO

Arlen Shenkman, SAP Arlen Shenkman has been named as CFO of SAP North America. He was previously global head of SAP corporate development from January 2012 until accepting the new assignment. Before stepping up to the SVP role in corporate development, he was VP in the same area from May 2004 through January 201. Shenkman fills the spot left vacant by Rouven Bergmann, who joined Medidata as CFO in April.

HICKS MOVES TO INFUSIONSOFT

Terry Hicks, InfusionsoftTerry Hicks, who had led Intuit's QuickBooks Online operations, has taken a job as chief product officer at Infusionsoft. Hicks' left his position as VP and GM of QBO in February at a time in which that application was becoming an increasingly central part of Intuit's software business. Based in Chandler, Ariz., Infusionsoft makes sales and marketing automation applications for small companies. The company has a channel program that enlists resellers, referral partners and affiliates.

The day-early newsletter shipment was prompted by the upcoming July 4 weekend. Hoping you all enjoy a good loud nation's Independence Day. Bob Scott's Insights newsletter is published 48 times a year and July 10 will not be one of them. I will be in Berlin until July 12 with my wife who is on a seven-week gig with Bayer. Are the Germans noted for their accounting prowess? Oh yeah, there is this big software company over there I've heard of. News will continue to be posted on the website as circumstances dictate and hopefully they will not dictate much. We might stay up to watch the World Cup final--apparently 2 a.m. Berlin time.

BILL.COM HIRES NETSUITE'S APPEL

David Appel, Bill.com Bill.com has hired David Appel as head of direct sales for the online invoicing software company. Appel left NetSuite in May after slightly more than seven years with the cloud accounting software publisher. From January 2011 until his departure from NetSuite, he was director of new market sales. His LinkedIn page gives a detailed description of a significant job with these words:

DOUG KENNEDY JOINS NETSUITE

Doug Kennedy, NetSuiteNetSuite has not announced it. But according to his LinkedIn page,  Doug Kennedy, who was a key player in the Dynamics channel, has become VP of global systems integrators for the company. The page shows Kennedy joined in May and a search of the NetSuite press site reveals what my memory tells me—there's been no official announcement. This is quite a catch after Fred Studer, general manager for Microsoft Dynamics, joined NetSuite a few months ago as its chief marketing officer.

CENTERPOINT GETS ACA REPORTING

Ken Hilton, Red Wing Software Red Wing Software has added the ability to track and report information required by the Affordable Care Act for tax filing purposes to CenterPoint Payroll Software. The feature enables employers to track required ACA information and have it appear on forms 1094-C and 1095-C. Although final versions of those forms will not be available until the week of December 21, payroll users can now download and install this newest version, 9.18. Red Wing will release end-of-year tax forms and tax table updates that week.
