INTUITIVE TEK GETS ADAPTIVE HONOR

Brian Storrs, Intuitive TekIntuitive Tek has been named North American Partner of the year by Adaptive Planning. Based in Lakewood, Colo., Intuitive Tek, also an Acumatica reseller, was in the news recently as the developer of the Acumatica Retail Management Solution, which debuted at the National Retail Federation's Big Show in New York City. The company, led by president Brian Storrs, was also Adaptive Planning's Partner of the Year for the Western United States in 2013.

SOCIUS CREATES STRATEGIC ALLIANCE JOB

Ken Ledyard, SociusSocius, a Sage and Microsoft reseller, has named Ken Ledyard to the newly created position of director of strategic alliances. Ledyard, who had been director of marketing from July 2010 through January 2014, is responsible for a variety of efforts, including the company's Master VAR program. "This is a new position as we are launching and expanding a number of key initiatives and this position will help to provide focus to our efforts," Ledyard said this week.

SAP LOSES ON $391M JUDGMENT

A $391 million judgment against SAP stands after the U.S. Supreme Court this week refused to hear the software company's appeal in a patent infringement case. The judgment stands even though the patent involved has been invalidated. The judgment was obtained by Versata Software in case involving alleged patent-infringement of database management tools. According to published reports, SAP had argued an appeals court changed rules on determining patent infringement and the case should have been suspended while the  patent's validity determined.

Observers have pointed out that New Jerseyans will put up with about anything, except something that makes traffic worse. Speaking of which, with the SuperBowl being played at Giants Stadium in the Meadowlands on February 2, traffic experts are expecting horrific delays, angry frustrated drivers and traffic in and out of New York City proceeding at a crawl. In other words, a normal week. ... Russell Johnson, who played "The Professor" in the loved TV show "Gilligan's Island', died this week.

RICH WALKER RETIRING FROM INTUIT

Rich Walker, intuitRich Walker is leaving Intuit after 15 years with the tax and accounting software company. Walker has been highly visible in the accounting community in his role in building programs for accountants and bookkeepers. His last day is January 31. Walker explained his decision in a prepared statement. "While I may take the occasional corporate consulting assignment, my aim is to find a global nonprofit organization where I can devote my time and energy toward a cause that helps change the world and inspires me personally," Walker wrote in an email message.

LYNN GETS NEW TRIBRIDGE POST

Jeff Lynn, TribridgeDynamics reseller Tribridge has named Jeff Lynn to the new post of Chief People Officer. Lynn, who has been with the Tampa, Fla.-based company since December 2011, was previously VP of professional services. In his new job, Lynn is responsible for recruiting, human resources, the Tribridge Academy for training and learning, and senior regional directors who deal with employees, customers, and partners.

OPEN SYSTEMS BUYS MASTER SOFTWARE DEVELOPER

Application Computer Systems Open Systems has acquired third-party software company Application Computer Systems of Greenville, S.C. Founded in 1978, ACS markets Master Software, which the company describes as an integrated software system for apparatus repair shops that combines job cost, inventory, and distribution with accounting. ACS will integrate Master Software into Open Systems' Traverse accounting system. Open Systems has been expanding integration of products with Traverse, both acquisition and through alliances with developers.

XP ANTI-VIRUS SUPPORT EXTENDED

MicrosoftUsers of the Windows XP operating system get more than a year of additional anti-malware support. However, that does not change Microsoft's decision to make XP a non-supported operating system on April 8. Let's assume most accounting software VARs have moved beyond XP. Still, there are a lot of small businesses that have not.  There are estimates that 20 percent to 30 percent of PC desktops worldwide run XP.
