FISHBOWL OFFERS COMMISSIONS

Fishbowl, which markets Fishbowl Inventory for the QuickBooks arena, is offering a 10-percent commission to anyone who refers a lead that turns into a software sale. Once it gets a referral, Fishbowl takes over the process, described as including product demonstrations, providing information and closing the sale. All interested parties have to do is fill out a referral agreement “so that Fishbowl knows where to send the commission check” and then find a prospect to refer.

The company said the average commission earned in 2010 was $1,300 per sale. The press announcement does not make it clear what the change in programs involves from last year to the new program. I’m not sure how I’d feel about this if I were one of the company’s resellers. If I’m very connected, I can forgo the 30 percent starting reseller margin and the cost and simply make referrals. The Fishbowl website is also pushing customers to buy now since prices are going up June 1.
