SAP: BYD PASSES 1,000 UNITS

Willliam McDermott, SAPSAP said this week  that it has passed its target of selling 1,000 Business ByDesign units by end end of 2011. That comment was made at a webcast discussing fiscal 2011 results. Co-CEO William McDermott said that "We have exceeded the 1,000 target that you’ve heard Jim and I talk about countless times."
Jim is co-CEO Jim Hagemann-Snabe. What McDermott did not say is how many ByD units have been sold and there had been speculation that the business slowdown in Europe might keep the company from reaching the goal. So I would guess that it did not beat 1,000 by much. McDermott also said that SAP is on course for reaching its goal of deriving 40 percent of its revenue from the channel by 2015. Channel revenue grew by 40 percent in 2011 and now comprises 23 percent of total revenue. But the real boom continues in sales of Hana, the company's in-memory database technology. Sales from that segment reached about $207 million even though it was available only in the last two quarters. SAP also took whacks at Oracle which it reported as having claimed it beat SAP in four deals in which Hana was being proposed. McDermott said SAP searched for those customers. "We couldn't find any names," he said. The results for the year December were very strong. SAP reported revenue of  about $18.5 billion, a 15-percent increase over 2011. Software revenue reached about $5.2 billion, up 25 percent. As to who is buying ByD, SAP's filing with the SEC showed the following major wins during the fourth quarter: EC Bioenergie GmbH, DESANO Pharmacy, Innogence Limited, Matchcode, metaio, Schaltbau Holding AG, Schukat electronic Vertriebs GmbH. NetSuite's comment about the large number of umlauts in the ByD customer base appears to have some merit.
