ACTIVANT SHOWS MODEST IMPROVEMENT

Activant Solutions, which sells specialized ERP applications, came out of the third quarter ended June 30 with a slight uptick in revenue on a 56.5-percent increase in net income, the later helped out by a $6.2 million after tax gain on the sale of its tools business. There was also a 4.2-percent decline in operating revenue. But still there was a big bright spot with systems revenues rising to $30 million, an 11.8-percent increase from $26.8 million last year which more than offset services revenue of $6.5 million, which was off just under 3 percent from $62.3 million a year earlier.

And the fact that the product lines of its Retail Distribution Group cover the hardlines, lumber and automotive industries looks like a pretty good performance. Retail revenue was $53.6 million in the most recently ended period, up 5.2 percent from just under $51 million. Revenue for the Wholesale Distribution product group slipped to $38.9 million, off 3.2 percent from $38.1 million in last year's corresponding period
