Manufacturing software vendor Plex Systems has named Jim Shepherd as VP of strategy. Shepherd was previously a VP and analyst who joined Gartner in 2009 after that research house’s purchase of AMR Research. At both, he analyzed ERP systems, supply chain management and the convergence of business strategy and enterprise applications.

The last issue talked about the buzz in the channel that Sage North America was considering direct sales of CRM. Sage has described the process which essentially says there are direct sales, but …. And I believe this is an explanation that has been given before regarding sales of other products.

Pronto Software, an Australian financial software company, has rebranded. A prepared statement by the company's managing director David Jackman said that “the rebrand marks a fresh way for the company to distinguish itself in the IT space in Australia and overseas.” Despite the fact that Pronto has recruited a small channel in this country, I would say that almost no one saw the old brand.

SBS GROUP SIGNS TWO AFFILIATES

The SBS Group, one of three Dynamics Master VARs, continues to be the only one making any noise. This week, it announced the signing of two more resellers who have become sales affiliates that operate under the SBS brand. The other two Master VARS, Tribridge and Interdyn Socius, have said nothing publicly about their activities in the new role.

NetSuite's related-party transactions always fascinate me. And the recitation of these deals in Form 10-K for 2011 is no exception. The most interesting are the company's sponsorships of the baseball Athletics via in-stadium signage and the yacht of Captain, NetSuite funding father and Oracle chairman Larry Ellison. Both were renewed last year. But the sheer volume is intriguing.

SAGE CONDUCTS USER PRICE SURVEY

Sage North America is conducting a survey of about 500 users about software pricing as it readies a change in pricing strategy. The company wants to know how much customers would be willing to pay per user per month for its applications. The grapevine has it that a customer who now pays about $8,000 per year would see maintenance rise to more than $40,000 per year.

NetSuite is continuing its move up market and the company and the sales force for reaching larger organizations is growing at a faster rate than other parts of the NetSuite business. That description was given as CFO Ron Gill addressed the Morgan Stanley Technology Media and Telecom conference this week. Gill noted that the most important product direction for addressing enterprises is a deep vertical focus.

Intuit claims it has grabbed more than 50 percent of the market share for new retail sales of accounting software in the United Kingdom. That statistic was given this week by CEO Brad Smith during his presentation that was webcast from the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media, and Telecom Conference.
