open systems logo Open Systems has acquired reseller InterMicro and is using the former VAR's operations to move into offices in Greenville, S.C., and Edmond, Okla. Founded in 1993, InterMicro was headed by president Jim Robinson, who joins Open Systems as an executive sales consultant.

SAGE BUYS IRISH PAYMENT PROCESSOR

sagelogo80The Sage Group, which has been getting back into the M&A game, picked up its first target of 2012. The company, based in the United Kingdom, has acquired Integral Computers Ltd., a Dublin, Ireland-based payment processing provider for about $26.1 million in cash. Integral was founded in 1989 and provides services to small retailers that have standalone or electronic point-of-sale payment needs.

WOODARD BECOMES SAGE RESELLER

The Woodard Consulting Group has become a Sage reseller. And that is an interesting move since Joe Woodard, the owner of the Canton, Ga.-based firm, is a prominent QuickBooks ProAdvisor and holds the Scaling New Heights Conference for ProAdvisors and Intuit Solution Providers.

AVALARA TARGETS $40M SALES

Kevin Riegelsberger, AvalaraAvalara intends to increase its revenue to about $40 million for 2012, a roughly 50-percent increase from 2011 as it seeks to ramp up its business. The Bainbridge Island, Wash.-based company also plans to add 100 staffers this year to bring employment to 370, according to President Kevin Riegelsberger. Read more...

EXACT NAMES CEO; FINALLY

Erik van der Meijden, ExactExact, which has been looking for a permanent leader for 18 months, has named Erik van der Meijden as its chief executive officer. Van der Meijden, who held several executive positions with HP, was CEO of Getronics until May 2011. He replaces Max Timmer who had been interim CEO since July 2011. Read more...

SAGE’S WAYWARD VARS

 

sagelogo80Maybe the word wayward isn’t right, but I thought VARs with straying eyes did not fit the headline space. However, the fact that since January two major Sage resellers have taken on non-Sage products is a sign of the company’s continuing slowness to reach the cloud. (As opposed to Microsoft, which says it’s in the cloud, but really is not on the Dynamics line, except for CRM).

BLACKBAUD TESTS CPA PROGRAM

Blackbaud is considering starting a CPA program and the nonprofit software vendor is in the process of onboarding its first firm. That is apparently a test as the Charleston, S.C.-based company is not ready to discuss a program in detail. This comes as the company studies its options for expanding its channel program as discussed in the last edition of this newsletter. Read more...

CONSULTING PUSHES DOWN DELTEK RESULTS

deltek logoDeltek returned to profitability in the fourth quarter ended December 31. And it had record product revenue for the year. However, a decline in consulting revenue held down total income for the last three months of 2011. The Herndon, Va.-based company reported net income of just over $3 million for the most recently ended quarter, compared to a year-ago loss of $7.9 million. Fourth-quarter revenue was $87.4 million, an increase of 1.4 percent from $86.1 million in last year’s corresponding quarter. Read more...

SBS PICKS UP DENVER FIRM

SBS Group logoThe SBS Group, one of three Microsoft Master VARs, has signed 5280 Consulting as a member of its Partner Network. There are three Master VARs signing up smaller shops that sell Microsoft Dynamics. But for the last few months, SBS is the only one making noise. In this case, Denver-area-based 5280 is now part of the SBS Desert Mountain Region and has been selling Dynamics SL for more than eight years. The firm works in distribution, manufacturing, construction and professional services and also develops custom applications around SL. Gabriel Araujo, who leads 5280, is now managing director of SBS Group Denver. Read more...
