COMPASS BUYS AFC

compass logoCompass Enterprise Solutions of Port Huron, Mich., has acquired Accounting for Computers of Utica, Mich., which handles Accpac, SageCRM, FAS, and MISys. Catherine Coleman Marks will continue as president of Compass with Tim Veach, VP responsible for project management and business development for both Compass locations. As VP, Sue Kinyon, former AFC partner, oversees the Michigan operations and provides consulting services to all clients. Compass previously sold Accpac and SageCRM.

BKD STARTS DYNAMICS BLOG

Microsoft reseller BKD Technologies has opened a blog at www.dynamicsGPinsights.com. The site is designed to help users “navigate updates, changes and functional information for Dynamics GP." The site features articles, along with the ability to post comments or questions and to track updates via Twitter, LinkedIn or RSS feeds. GP Webinars are also available. Topics under discussion include Dynamics GP 2010 R2, Dynamics GP reports and user-defined functions.

MARKETING SVP LEAVES EPICOR

James NorwoodExpect more of this: James Norwood, who has held a variety of sales and marketing roles at Epicor, has left the company after 15 years. Norwood has taken the job as chief marketing officer of  Kana Software. Norwood joined Epicor, then  known as Platinum Software in 1996. He became VP of product marketing in April 2005 and the company's SVP of worldwide product marketing in January 2010. Read more...

MICROSOFT ENDS FOUR ERP AWARDS

Microsoft Dynamics logoMicrosoft has stopped handing out separate awards for each of its four ERP products: Dynamics AX/GP/NAV/SL. In their place is one overall ERP and one CRM Award, along with ISV awards for each of those categories (obviously not a surprise to anyone who vied for these awards). The change emphasizes sectors with awards give in manufacturing, distribution, financial services, public sector, retail and professional services.

WAVE ACCOUNTING GETS FUNDING

Scott ZanderbergenWave Accounting, a company in the new generation of online systems, has raised $1.5 million (Canadian) in its seed round of funding. Based in Toronto, the company received commitments led by OMERS through INKEF Capital, the venture capital investment alliance of pension funds OMERS (Canada) and ABP (the Netherlands). Scott Zanderbergen, former VP of product management at Sage North America, has joined Wave as VP of product marketing. His duties included developing a network of professional users, such as accountants and bookkeepers. Read more...

SAP INTROS B1 8.81

SAP has introduced Business One v. 8.81, which the company says incorporates changes that are being introduced across its product lines. Among these are support for “multiple mobile technologies” and partner enablement. The latter is designed to spur the development of applications via its integration with add-on and vertical applications. There are also enhancements to the SAP Business One studio, the software development kit. Additionally, Crystal Reports and Crystal Dashboard Design now integrate with B1.

Cougar Mountain logoCougar Mountain Software has rebranded and it has a newly designed website, which looks like it was put together by someone with red-blue color blindness. The top of the page starts with black followed what I describe a bilious green. But that’s a just a personal preference. The company’s new tag line, "Accounting software for growing businesses.” It also has posted some white papers including “Fulfilling CPA Needs.”

BLYTHECO OPENS SURVEY

Blytheco logoSage reseller Blytheco has launched an online survey to explore how businesses are using social media to hire, grow, expand and train. The survey is designed to provide data regarding which social media trends will be important in the next 12 to 24 months. Results will be available immediately with Blytheco providing a comprehensive report on findings early next month. Among the questions the company says will be addressed are “Why is social media important to our industry?” and “How are my competitors using social to get ahead in our market?” The survey is available at www.blytheco.com/survey, and highlights are regularly noted on Blytheco’s Twitter feed (@BlythecoLLC #SBBS) and on the Blytheco blog, Think.

SKYYTEK REFOCUSES

Ray TetlowSkyytek, a Business ByDesign reseller, has refocused the company’s operations. Although it still actively sells the SAP product, the company is emphasizing “We have morphed more into a management consulting company,” says CEO Ray Tetlow. Nominally based in Miami, Fla., the company effectively operates from an office in Hockessin, Del., and it is getting rid of most locations.
