The merger of Activant and Epicor under the latter’s name has led to a company led by two senior executives from the former. With Epicor CEO George Klaus stepping aside to remain as chairman, his former spot was taken by Activant CEO Pervez Qureshi. Qureshi, who was president and CEO of Activant from 2006, served as COO and EVP starting in 2004. He is joined in the executive suite by CFO Kathy Crusco, who moves into the same spot with the combined companies. She joined Activant in May 2007.

If Trey Resources, parent to Sage reseller SWK Technologies, was betting its future on Sage’s X-3 software, it looks like bet is starting to pay off with two sales during the quarter. And the company, which has changed its name to SilverSun Technologies, continues to untangle its spaghetti capital structure. Revenue jumped to $2.8 million for the first quarter ended March 31, up 51 percent from $1.8 million in last year’s corresponding period. The company reported net income of $465,653 in the most recently ended period, up from $401,990 a year earlier. Read more...

Syspro, the manufacturing software specialist, has entered the Internet application world with Syspro BusinessLive, its SaaS offering. The product is available for a monthly subscription price. I’d offer more details, but most of the announcement touts the standard benefits of cloud products – the low monthly cost, ability to have updates, no need for large up-front IT or capital costs and yadda, yadda, yadda.

After attending a February SAP channel conference, I thought we’d start hearing the names of more resellers signing on for Business ByDesign, the SAP cloud product. There was a list of new VARs shown in one conference session and SAP very nicely shared the list with me since I couldn’t copy all the names during the brief time the slide was displayed. But we haven’t really had announcement. One company shown on the list, vehemently denied having signed for ByD. We also haven’t seen signings of heavyweight resellers. Read more...

The combination of Epicor Software with Activant under the name Epicor Software has been completed as the $800 million operation falls under the private ownership of Apax Partners. Outside of the fact that two companies that reported financial results now won't be there, there are a lot of things left to find out. One of which is the management structure, which a press release on the Epicor site says will be forthcoming in a few weeks.

DELTEK AND THE CHANNEL?

The recent death of Sean Hickey, the VP of sales at Deltek, had me thinking more about that company and its relationship to the channel. Hickey, you may remember, had taken over Taylor Macdonald's job after he left at the end of 2008. Since then, the channel has shrunk as stronger VARs have taken over the business of other channel members. But it's the acquisition of Maconomy that has my focus and Maconomy is clearly the hot ticket at Deltek and it's a direct sales organization.
