Avalara closed its first day of trading as a public company with a bang. And it was just in time to get an additional boost when the Supreme Court tossed out rules against taxing Internet sales.

Avalara went public today at $24 per share, beating estimates that had continued to rise over the last few days. On Friday, the Wall Street Journal said the estimate was $19 to $21 per share and when the software company filed its amended Form S-1 with the SEC mid-week that had moved to $21 to $23 per share.
