NETSUITE : 4Q STRONG DESPITE LOSSES

Zach NelsonNetSuite reported a wider loss on a 3.8 percent increase in revenue for the fourth quarter ended December 31. But the vendor of Internet-based business applications said that it was a good quarter with a record number of customers added and it hammered away at the theme that it is losing its smaller customers and replacing them with larger customers who pay the company more for products.

And it expects to begin hiring sales people again during this quarter to reach those larger end users. NetSuite's quarterly loss increased to $6.5 million, compared to $4.5 million in last year’s corresponding period. Revenue rose to $42.3 million for the most recently ended period, up from $41.4 million a year earlier. The 2009 loss was $23.5, compared to $18.4 million the prior year. Revenue for the year just reported was $166.5 million, up 9 percent from $152.5 million. Predicting resellers will start to "bite the bullet" in moving to SaaS this year, Nelson said the VAR program is good and will get even better and expects 2010 will be the year the channel takes off for his company. He promised “shock-and-awe” announcements about the VAR program for the current quarter, but offered no details.
