Sage logoThe change of pricing and brand by Sage North America has taken attention away from another major element of this week’s announcement. And that is the rules of engagement in dealing with customers. This includes how leads are handled.

“We are introducing a more robust referral program,” says Joe Langner, the VP handling the announcement. Sage will qualify the leads and bring the leads to the “certified partners in the market and funnel the leads to them.” This means a departure from the partner of record model, Langner continues. “If you discover the lead, we will bring you in.” Engagement rules should also apply to the recent declaration that Sage will step in with direct sales if a reseller does not serve a prospect of customer. I would spend more time analyzing the impact of the margins set for the new subscription pricing model. However, when I asked two usually vocal resellers about how this will work, I got an answer that was "Who knows? You tell us when you figure it out."
