NETSUITE ROLLS OUT MFG, BASHES SAP

Zach Nelson, NetSuiteIn a keynote laden with competition bashing, NetSuite CEO Zach Nelson said NetSuite was introducing its manufacturing application. Officially, the  new cloud system, already available, provides "manufacturers robust capabilities to more efficiently manufacture, forecast, price, track and schedule products, with a focus on design and a single platform for both B2B and B2C distribution."

Functionality released includes availability to promise, standard cost, work-in-process, and routings. But the two-hour keynote was as much about trashing other vendors as anything with Nelson devoting the most attention to SAP. He presented statistics that showed NetSuite's increase in revenue against what was pictured as a double-digit decline in SAP's core values over the same period. The difference was in factoring out SAP's Hana in-memory database technology which has been its hottest seller. Nelson repeatedly dismissed Hana by picturing SAP as only wanting to talk about databases and that's something most users don't care about. Nelson also presented a bar chart that showed competitor financial performance with SAP down 3 percent. Interestingly, the strongest revenue increase was by Sage, up 9 percent. "I don't know how that happened," Nelson said.
