SAP OFFERS WORKERS IPHONE 5

Michael Golz, SAPIt made a splash that SAP is offering the iPhone 5 to 65,000 employees. But that does not mean SAP is requiring them to take the device. And it was quite interesting to get the count on mobile devices from the vendor following the publicity it got about the iPhone 5 recently. The SAP employee base has 20,000 Blackberry phones, 18,000 iPads, 13,000 iPhones and about 2,000 Android smartphones and tablets, according to Michael Golz, SVP and CIO of SAP America.
There are also about 4,000 bring-your-own-devices. However, it does look like the iPhone numbers will rise, especially on the BYOD side. "We expect a higher number of personal devices due to iPhone 5 as employees will want to bring their own, new iPhones and in many cases "trade in" their previous (corporate or personal) devices," Golz said in a prepared statement. Whatever employees choose to do, SAP is high on the iPhone. SAP believes that supplying the iPhone 5 to our employees will improve efficiency and support our growing mobile workforce. The iPhone 5's better battery life, screen, navigation and speed are highly relevant for enterprise users," Golz said. Still, as far as Android, the Samsun devices were "cleared to become available to employees, both as corporate-owned devices, as well as BYOD" in August and the company is testing an Android MDM app called Divide By Enterproid. SAP said "The software creates a virtual sandbox for all corporate data and e-mail within the employee's personal device." SAP is also testing convertible laptop/tables from Fujitsu and Samsung on the Windows 8 platform.
