ALL QUIET ON THE VENDOR FRONT

Nothing says watching your costs more than major vendors passing on major shows. In this case, it was the Illinois CPA Society's Midwest Accounting and Financial Showcase last week. Microsoft was a no show and Sage pulled its booth. Generally at these shows mid-market vendors' booths are stocked by local resellers but they had something.

 

And that may be why one reader thought the last issue of this newsletter was tame. I have a good excuse: I've been well. But seriously folks, the major players are not making a lot of noise in a recessionary summer moving out of the dog days of August into the long Labor Day weekend when a lot of Americans aren't laboring and it ain't just because of the holiday. Cost-cutting includes postponed shows with NetSuite the latest company to move a planned conference. Its October user/reseller conference has been pushed to April. Details are still being ironed out. Infor turned its Inforum 2009 into a virtual conference which will be held on October 20 and 21, citing the expense that travel represented for its users. A year ago, AccountMate postponed its Synergy reseller conference, but will be holding this year's in the regular season, specifically October 17 through 21. Intuit is holding a conference for resellers of QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions from October 5 to 8 in Chicago. But some time ago it dropped the user conference that has usually run consecutively with the VAR confab.
