MICROSOFT, EPICOR INTRO RETAIL PRODUCTS

Anyone that is seriously in the retail business exhibited at the National Retail Federation conference in New York this week. And major players like Microsoft and Epicor took the opportunity to introduced new products as part of the usual fanfare surrounding this important event. Microsoft pushed out the latest version of Microsoft Dynamics for Retail while Epicor announced Epicor Retail CRM 7.0.
Those were two of the vendors with what I term Comdex-sized booths at the entrances to the exhibit hall at the Javits Center. The biggest footprint probably belonged to NCR, but Epicor and Microsoft were in the game in terms of exhibit size. Dynamics for Retail was pictured as an end-to-end e-commerce package. Microsoft said its product is fully touch-optimized and supports POS on Windows Phone 8 and the Surface tablet. The press release actually said its supports devices "such as" Surface so I'm assuming it also supports the unmentionable competitors. It also manages multiple channels. Epicor said CRM 7.0 is completely redesigned offering loyalty program automation and sophisticated query tools. The loyalty program is automated, automatically upgrading, downgrading, terminating or renewing membership types. Querying now includes step-by-step counts of customers and a graphical flow chart design enables users to see how each criteria selected or identified affects list counts.
