OPEN SYSTEMS ADDS VENDOR

Open Systems has been active in 2011 in its announcement of members of its Preferred Vendor program. In fact, I don’t think it’s had this much news about such vendors in the almost 20 years I’ve been covering this business. This time, it has added SmartLinc, which will integrate its web-based shipping system, Process Shipper, with the Traverse and Open Systems Accounting Software Lines. Process Shipper supports all carriers from UPS, USPS, FedEx, DHL, LTL and Full Truck load carriers to regional carriers, local couriers or a company’s own vehicle fleet. Read more...

INFOR REVS UP 12 PERCENT

Infor reported revenue of $509.8 million for the fourth quarter ended May 31, an increase of 12 percent over $453.7 million a year ago. Infor? This is a company that has previously given only a general range in its annual revenue and this appears to be a company getting ready for a public offering, how soon it’s hard to tell. But there are few other reasons that I can think of as to why private companies start reporting numbers. It's been believed annual revenue is in the $2.5 billion range, but given the May year end, adjusting for seasonality would be a bit difficult.

MAS BASE GETTING SQL SERVER

sage logoSage is making way for SQL Server in Version 4.5 of the MAS line, scheduled for release in the fourth quarter. The ability to utilize SQL Server was released in October, but only for new customers, according to Erik Kaas, senior director of product management. Now, the installed base can choose between the Microsoft database engine and Sage’s historic Providex. That’s one of the additions in the road map that Sage has laid out, with many of the changes encompassing technology and features that have started in the Accpac line.

MALWARE FOLLIES

JZip logoRed flags should go up before anyone downloads freeware. But seeking to bypass the fee for WinZip, I downloaded something promising called JZip.Yes, it opens zipped files, but it also installs a toolbar and itself as the preferred search tool in place of Google (and I assume about anything else.)  It took a few days for me to realize and the fact that it’s also immune the normal tools for changing home pages on Firefox and Internet Explorer and the Norton 360 Read more...

SAGE TAKING ADVISOR GLOBAL

One of the more interesting items in the Sage MAS roadmap is Sage Advisor, which essentially pushes help at the user.  It was invented by the Peachtree folks, who won a Sage award for their contribution, and is going to be brought into all of Sage’s financial applications. This isn’t all happening tomorrow as Advisor is on the MAS 90 and 200 road map for 2013. Read more...
