CONVERGENCE EUROPE DOWN ONE SITE

Microsoft is entering the second year of its multi-site site approach to holding its Convergence conference in Europe. But this year, the company went for three sites, London, Prague and the Hague, instead of four sites last year. In 2009, it was London, Vienna, Frankfurt and Rotterdam. A spokesperson said this year's sites are expected to sell out and the venues are larger. Read more...

MICROSOFT OVER FIVE YEARS

What a difference five years makes. Five years ago, New Orleans was high and dry (well, low and dry?), but things were about to get wetter. And five years ago then corporate VP Doug Burgum was a presenter at Microsoft's annual financial analyst day on July 28, 2005. Fortunately, a query brings up the transcript in which Burgum told analysts about GP 9.0. Read more...

SAGE OPENS HEALTHCARE TO CHANNEL

Sage logoSage is giving its reselling channel the opportunity to sell its healthcare products. The company believes that given the stimulus money and healthcare program this is going to be a revenue opportunity for one to two years and given the size of the industry, I'd say more. The first reseller to sign is Alliance Solutions Group, a Bradenton, Fla.-based VAR that sells Timberline, among other Sage products.

SBS HIRES STRATEGIC ACCOUNT MANAGER

The SBS Group, a Woodbridge, N.J.-based reseller, has hired Dynamics sales specialist Lou Gralau as its strategic account manager. Graulau had previously been sales and marketing VP for Manhattan-based Queue Associates, also a Dynamics SL reseller. He will evaluate the business processes of potential clients and assisting in an advisory role for other members within the SBS corporate team. It seems to me with the litigated jump of two key Sage X3 product guys from Nextec to SWK Technologies this year that we are seeing more poaching than we’ve seen in a while.

INTACCT GOES AFTER ASSOCATIONS

Intacct is working with Avectra to provide association management and financial management applications by integrating Avectra’s NetForum Pro system with Intacct’s online financial applications. They will jointly market and sell the software. Is it just me, or do others find it overly obvious when these releases about integration of systems talk of "eliminating the need for manual re-keying of data between systems"? Read more...

SAGE ADDS FOUR MIP VARS

Sage had said it would enlarge its reseller base for MIP Fund Accounting and this week's announcement of four additional VARs is the first sign of progress on that front. Those firms include ADSS Global of Exton, Penn., a Sage stalwart with Accpac and MAS 90/200 on its product line, and Kerr Consulting & Support of Houston, Texas, which handles Accpac, Sage Pro and Cyma. Fund accounting has always had a good representation from CPA firms and two joined the MIP effort in this round, Joseph Eve, a regional firm based in Great Falls, Mont., and Kernutt Stokes Brandt & Co. LLP of Eugene, Ore.

IBM CHANNEL BAFFLED BY SOCIAL MEDIA

In case you thought you were the only one who can't figure out how to use social media for business effectively, IBM this week released a survey that shows you are not. A survey of 1,000 partners worldwide found 45 percent are experimenting with social media business strategy to generate new revenue streams. But three quarters of those are uncertain how to use it as an effective sales tool. Read more...

NO ISSUE SEPTEMBER 3

I’m assuming you don't want to read this stuff on a getaway weekend any more than I do. And since we publish 48 issues a year, next Friday is a good day to head out to whatever your favorite summer's end weekend spot is. We resume on Friday, September 10 with business as normal. Or perhaps, abnormal. You decide.

DYNAMICS SL DEALERS SCRAMBLING?

Noting the number of Dynamics SL dealers moving onto the Acumatica platform made me realize that the Solomon crowd faces a problem when Microsoft starts taking orders for last cigarettes and blindfolds for many of its smaller VARs this fall. My impression has always been that Solomon had more lifestyle VARs than Great Plains did, although I have nothing to back that up. Read more...
