Epicor Software has introduced a mobile-enabled version of the Epicor Retail Point-of-Sale application. The software supports the iPad, iPod and Windows mobile devices. Additionally, Epicor says it has formed a retail mobility team to assist retailers in the deployment of mobile technology.

Exact has put new life into the Macola brand with the introduction of Macola Manufacturing Pro and Macola Distribution Pro. I would have sworn a couple of years ago that Exact was more likely to retire the name than extend it.

Relational Investors, an investment group, plans to sharply cut its holdings in Intuit where it has been very quiet despite a noisy start two years ago. According to an SEC filing, the firm has told Intuit that it will sell up to 5,562,500 shares of stock. That is almost 50 percent of its holdings as reported to the SEC on June 21. Relational expressed its confidence in Intuit and its future.

AVALARA HIRES VAN DOOREN, AUSTIN

Avalara has hired Pascal Van Dooren, VP of partner sales at Sage North America, as the sales-and-use-tax vendor loads up on Sage veterans the way Sage has loaded up on Microsoft veterans. This follows last week's departure of Rob Johnson, who had served as senior director of partner programs for Sage. Johnson will manage channel operations and Van Dooren, who has been with Sage since 2003, will be SVP of sales and marketing at Bainbridge Island, Wash.-based Avalara.

SugarCRM, which markets open source CRM applications, has signed two channel managers who left the SAP Business ByDesign team in August. SugarCRM has hired Geoff Ashley as VP of partner enablement and Dawn Jaeger as director of channel development.
