While this newsletter was revving up in August a lawsuit was decided that involved SAP and Versata, which has a diverse portfolio that includes specialized ERP products. A jury awarded Versata $139 million regarding its allegations of patent infringement by SAP which Versata said used its patents regarding the way items are priced and systems configured for products with multiple levels. It was somewhat surprising that Sage has announced a global launch of X3, since the product has been in multiple countries for several years, considering that it originated in France. But Sage says there's not been a global launch before.

Vision33, an SAP Business One reseller based in Irvine, Calif., acquired at least two other Business One reselling businesses late last year. It purchased the three-person TBC International operation, based in Salado, Texas, from Richard Paul Thomas, who sold a sister company to Open Systems about the same time.
