OFFICE 365 GOES ON THE IPAD

Satya Nadella, Microsoft New Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella held his first press conference this week and, as expected, announced the availability of Office 365 on Apple's iPad. That was simply the major piece of evidence of Nadella's emphasis. His statements revolved around the theme of having products available across every platform and every device and that included every telephone, not just on Microsoft devices or PCs. "Today is just one aspect of overall strategy," Nadella said.

SUGARCRM TO LINK TO D&B

SugarCRM will have native integration of D&B business content starting in April, the companies announced this week. Users can choose from three levels of D&B data integration based with each level providing different types and quantities of company and contact information, as well as detailed industry and competitor data. The integrated product will be available through SugarCRM resellers while users can purchase D&B data subscriptions from SugarCRM VARs, which will provide local sales and support.

SAGE OUTLINES PRICE INCREASES

SAGESage has published the percentage increase for midmarket products this year. Prices on almost all midmarket applications go up by 3 percent on May 1 and on Business Care renewals on August 1. One exception is Sage HRMS which gets a 4-percent hike on both new licenses and renewals. The 3-percent increase affects the following: Sage 100 Contractor, 100 ERP, 300 Construction and Real Estate, 300 ERP, 500, Budgeting and Planning, BusinessVision Accounting, BusinessWorks and CRM.

Miss PiggyOne of the most important questions of our day is "Can science cure the common Kardashian?" And speaking of America's No. 1 family, there were recent pictures of the Kardashian half-sister, Kylie Jenner, in a bikini. The average reaction was less "What a hot babe" than "OMG, there's more of them." .... Somebody on Twitter named me as a "Cool Journalist" in a couple of categories two weeks ago. This week, he upped that to "Super Journalist."

PRODWARE NET UP 10.6 PERCENT

Prodware logoResults for the Prodware Group, a Microsoft and Sage reseller based in Paris, France, show net income rose for the year ended December 31 while revenue increase by 23 percent over 2012. Net income was roughly $10.6 million while revenue hit $243.6 million. This analysis is a little sketchy as the company's full results have been posted in French at www.prodware.fr. But the March 20 press release describing them is not yet available in English on the Prodware U.K. page, or by the English version of the company's main web site.

COLUMBUS CONTINUES BIZ SHIFT

Thomas Honore, Columbus Columbus story of 2013 was its continued efforts to decrease its reliance on Microsoft products. And the Copenhagen, Denmark-based company noted this week its success in transforming itself into a consulting business that relies on sales of its own products, not of third-party products. Revenue for 2013 was flat as the sale of what it calls external software dropped by 32 percent over 2013 levels. As executives went though results of regions in an earnings webcast this week, the repeated theme was the drop in third-party revenue because of Microsoft's changes to its partner program.

PLANTEMORAN TO IMPLEMENT EPICOR

John Lumpkin, PlanteMoran PlanteMoran has agreed to provide implementation and consulting services for Epicor. The Southfield, Mich.-based accounting firm, which will not resell the software, has set up a team of ERP systems advisors and implementation specialists and will extend service to Epicor customers. It has hired John Lumpkin to lead the practice. Lumpkin was previously a senior management consultant at the Pragmatek Consulting Group from February 2011 until moving to the CPA firm. His LinkedIn page says he led a “complex $2.2 million, 1.5-year multi-site Epicor 9 implementation project”.

SAP PAYS UPFRONT ON CLOUD SALES

Kevin Gilroy, SAPSAP is paying resellers of its cloud products within five days, instead of having them receive payments over the life of a subscription. The new program accompanies a buy-now-pay-later plan SAP has rolled out for small and midsize customers for all products, except cloud applications. "The channel partners get cash in five days. Under the cloud program, the customers pay over 24 months," noted Kevin Gilroy, SVP for global the global SME segment and indirect channels. Gilroy made the comments in New York this week as SAP pushed the news that rolled out of CeBit in Germany this month

BDO SELLS JOBOPS TO INVESTOR GROUP

JobOpsAccounting firm BDO Seidman has sold its JobOps manufacturing software to Anania & Associates Investment Co. Anania, located in Windham, Maine, also purchased Synergistic Software Solutions, the unit that markets the software line. In a message to the Synergistic channel, general manager Ryan Rick said Anania focuses on manufacturing and two of its portfolio companies use JobOps. Rick's view was that the sale "means there is a new surge of energy and life to the JobOps product you have worked with for years."

 Mark Thompson, m-HanceSomewhere in the roar of the Convergence show floor, I remember hearing about some changes at m-Hance. That's the ambitious Dynamics VAR based in the United Kingdom. In any case, a check of the company's web page shows the picture and biographical sketch of founder and CEO Mark Thompson missing from the section about the management team. Well, maybe they are just changing photos and freshening the bio. I sent an email inquiry to the press office several days ago and have not had a response.
