RANDOM THOUGHTS: ALASKA JOURNAL, SARAH PALIN

Sarah PalinAlaska Journal. Saturday, July 27: In the woods. Saw bear. Myth confirmed. Had to stop to clean shoes. Sunday, July 28: Ran into a tree. Discovered softness is not northern. Monday, July 29: Fairbanks. Sun is still out at 11:30 p.m. Do not understand why Alaska needs Daylight Savings Time. Visited Alaska Pipeline.

Found out it was two quarts low. Tuesday July 30: Tried panning for gold. Decided using an ATM is much easier. Watched sled dog exhibition. Learned that dogs should be rotated every 5,000 miles or two years, whichever comes first. Wednesday, July 31: Drove through Wasilla home of Sarah Palin. Note to self. Cannot see Russia. Can see the DirectTV dealer's store. Danced all night. Floor was too crowded to spread wings. Did 897 things, felt let down but didn't want more. Had previously done most of them. Thursday, August 1: I wondered lonely as a cloud. Found out I was allergic to daffodils. Bought some Claritin. Had to educate trip mate that it's the salmon run, not that the salmon have the runs. Friday, August 2: Saw glacier calving. Realized it's much different than what happens on the farm. Played Jeopardy, on train to Anchorage. Someone commented they saw "a large parking lot in the middle of nowhere." "What is New Jersey?" I yelled out. Saturday, August 3: Stuffed self at farewell dinner. Was reminded a waist is a terrible thing to mind. Resolved to find out whatever happened to Baby Jane and Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolfe.
